Casino Could Cause Gridlock

April 13th, 2008

Albany to Marin County could see a very nasty traffic problem is an Indian tribe gets the rights to build a casino ala Vegas in the unincorporated city of North Richmond. According to a report funded by Contra Costa and Marin counties in conjunction with a few smaller nearby cities, the traffic at forty-six different intersections along Interstate 80 between an Indian-run casino in San Pablo and the proposed Sugar Bowl Casino could cause serious gridlock conditions.  Six of the forty-six intersections received an ‘E’ or ‘F’ for traffic during what is considered peak traffic hours.

The proposed casino is supposed to be a 225,000 square feet complex located at the intersection of Richmond Parkway and Parr Boulevard.  If the casino is approved and built, the traffic at seventeen of the forty-six intersections will have an ‘E’ or ‘F’ rating by 2011 and forty-five will have the same rating by 2030.  Traffic has the potential to become an absolute nightmare if something isn’t done now.

Barden To Keep Promise

March 29th, 2008

Casino head Don Barden promised the Hill District in Pennsylvania $3 million to spur development in the area, and he intends on keeping his word.  However, his money is not going to be used in the area closest to the new hockey arena.  Instead he intends to use the money to help fix up the area ‘further and deeper’ inside the Hill District, leaving the twenty-eight acres of land the Penguins hockey organization alone and allowing them to develop it as they see fit.

Barden is hoping to see changes in the area within the next five years, the proposed timeline he gave to county and city officials.  His Majestic Star Casino is due to open in the North Shore area and he has stated that engineers, architects, and designers would be brought in to help develop the Hill District area with the money he has pledged.  Originally he planned to withdraw his commitment because of the twenty-eight acres owned by the hockey team, but he decided instead to help another area that is in need of repair.  The original commitment was based on allowing Barden to develop the acreage, but he sent the gambling board a petition requesting a move. In order to win at poker, you have to scout out the games that are beatable.

This is also easier said than done, especially for people who simply to not have the funds to play for serious pots.  Your best bet is a low-stakes poker game against other recreational player who is below or at your playing skills.  These opponents are ones that enjoy playing a hand through without folding at the first flop of a Texas Hold’Em game.  But you need to remember that if you are playing in a casino, there will be a rake collected by the poker room.  They have to pay their employees somehow and in low-limit games, the rake can hurt.
